Diemensies

The magazine Diemensies was founded in 1969, as part of the Behavioral and Social Sciences faculty. It’s had grown to a committee with around fifteen members. We have a meeting each Wednesday. After that we all have a drink at Café de Minnaar (klik).

The board

The board of 2015-2016 consists of Moritz Lennartz, who is chair, secretary and treasurer Jacobien van Klinken and editor in chief Laura Meijer. As board, they make sure that everything regarding communication, costs and publication of the magazine goes well.

Jacobien van Klinken

Hi! My name is Jacobien van Klinken and I’m the secretary and treasurer of Diemensies. I’m 23 years old and I grew up in east-Groningen. I’m currently busy with the master Marketing. I’m into playing soccer and like hanging out with friends. I’m not a member of Diemensies for a very long time, but I do enjoy it a lot. I like to use my imagination in writing a good article. Even though the sky is the limit, I always try to make my articles informative too. That’s the challenge for me: writing an informative article, that is appealing to the reader at the same time and maybe even gives the reader a new perspective or learns the reader something he or she didn’t know before. I like to add something with my story!

Laura Meijer

Hello! My name is Laura, and I’m the editor in chief of Diemensies.  I’m 20 years old and I have my BSc in psychology. Currently I’m working on my last year of my second study: Dutch Language & Culture. Diemensies allows me to combine my love for two things: psychology and writing. It’s a great way to use the knowledge I have from both studies in a practical and fun way.

The editors

Our editors write for Diemensies and make it possible to publish a new magazine full of interesting articles six times a year!

Fionnoke Bos

I’m one of the oldest members of Diemensies: this is my sixth year! One of those years, I was active as the board of this beautiful magazine. I enjoy writing articles about the scientific subjects that I encounter in my PhD or elsewhere. It’s always a challenge to write about these complex subjects in an interesting way. Last year I went to the United States to finish my Research Master in Clinical Psychology! For those of you who are interested: I also wrote a few articles about my experiences in the States.

Isabelle de Harder

During my first year as a psychology students, two writers from Diemensies asked me some questions for the regular feature ‘Opiniemensies’. I’m a little ashamed to say that, at that moment, I had no clue what Diemensies was. Little did I know that two years later, I’d be chair of Diemensies. I don’t think I’ll ever really live: once a Diemensie, always a Diemensie. Or like the Eagles would say: ‘You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave!’.

Anyway, because of my strange, apparently imaginative answer on the ‘Opiniemensies’ question, they asked me if I’ve ever written stories before. I used to write when I was younger, but I wouldn’t say that my writing was good enough for a magazine. I was asked to write something despite of that, because I could always learn to write with feedback. I wonder if that worked out, but currently this is my fourth year in the committee and I still enjoy writing, the social contacts and the way I’ve grown by being a board member and still getting feedback on my articles.

Marieke Folbert

Hello! My name is Marieke Folbert and I am 18 years old. This is my first year studying Psychology and I also just joined Diemensies in September. So I am one of the newest members! I like to have fun with my friends and I am also addicted to TV-series like Game of Thrones and Suits. Reading is also an activity I like to do in my spare time and I think that is where my interest in writing comes from. It is very exciting to write your piece and to share it with everyone, because you never know if the readers will like it. But with help from the other Diemensiesmembers  I’ve always succeeded in publishing an article I really like and where I am very proud of.

Illustration and design

A lot of the illustrations in the magazine are made by professional illustrators, who usually are or were students at the art school Minerva (in Groningen). Because of this collaboration, we not only have a magazine with great content, but a magazine that looks perfect too.

Niels Lohmann

My name is Niels Lohmann. I’m a freelance illustration who likes to work with classic techniques, like drawing and painting. I focus on creating an intelligent reaction to a sensitive or complex subject, by inventing clarifying illustrations to explain a big amount of information. My work varies from short graphic novels to short comics, posters, prints and animations. Besides my regular work, I’m in a collaboration with other artists called Beeldboys. Together we work on festivals and give workshops.
